3 Myths About Starting Your E-Design Business

e-design resources Oct 27, 2023

Are you hesitant about taking the leap into the world of E-Design? Don't let myths hold you back from your dream career! In this blog post, I’m debunking three common misconceptions that might be preventing you from starting your very own E-Design business.

Myth #1: You Have to Have Experience

One of the biggest myths that deter many aspiring E-Designers is the belief that you need extensive experience in the field to succeed. While experience is undoubtedly valuable, it's not a prerequisite. E-Design offers an excellent entry point for those looking to kickstart their interior design careers. It is extremely low-cost and low-risk, which gives you time and space to grow at your own pace.

In fact, I started my very own E-Design business, Larkin Living Spaces, with NO prior experience in design, and have built it into a successful online interior design business.

Myth #2: You Have to Have Clients to Showcase Your Work

Another common misconception is the belief that you must have an extensive client portfolio to start an E-Design business. While showcasing your previous work can be helpful, especially for building trust with potential clients, it's not the only way to establish yourself in the industry.

As a newbie E-Designer, you can create mock projects, redesign your own spaces, or collaborate with friends and family to build a portfolio. You can also use online platforms to share your design ideas and concepts. The key is to focus on the quality of your work and your ability to communicate your design vision effectively. Clients are often more interested in your creativity, problem-solving skills, and ability to meet their needs than in a long list of previous clients.

Myth #3: You Have to Spend a Ton of $$$

Starting a business often comes with the assumption that you'll need a substantial financial investment upfront. However, E-Design offers a unique advantage in this regard. Unlike traditional interior design businesses that might require expensive physical spaces or showrooms, E-Design can be launched with minimal costs.

Many of the tools and software required for E-Design are available for free or at affordable prices. You don't need a physical office or a warehouse full of furniture and decor items. Plus, you can start small and gradually invest in your business as it grows. This flexibility is one of the reasons why E-Design is an accessible option for those with limited budgets.

Don't let these myths hold you back from pursuing your dream of starting an E-Design business. Your passion, creativity, and willingness to learn are your greatest assets. With the right mindset and determination, you can overcome these misconceptions and embark on a successful career in E-Design. Remember, every expert was once a beginner too!
